Formaldehyde is a Volatile Organic Compound, is the simplest and most common aldehyde, highly irritating substance, allergenic ( it determines asthma) and inducer of carcinogenicity for both humans and animals. At room temperature is a colorless gas with an unpleasant odor. In the internal environment it mainly derives from urea-formaldehyde resins and from tobacco smoke. It was discovered in 1867 by the German chemist August Wilhelm von Hofmann. The Escooh research projects aim to achieve kitchens made of natural materials with the aim of reducing formaldehyde. Pure natural wood, marble, stone, metals, glass, and the biological tissues, not treated with chemical spoilage, do not produce formaldehyde.
